Susan Haywood Smith studied printmaking at Auckland Society of Arts and Warringah Printmakers Studio (WPS) in Sydney. Her work follows her childhood experience of being a Pakeha being raised in South Auckland, showing her interest in the rich cultures of the Maori and Pacific Islanders around her reinforced by her family ties to the Te Arawa Iwi.
